Lying in the centre of south-east Asia, and bordering Laos, China and the Pacific Ocean, Vietnam is one of the most fascinating countries in the Far East. It has cast off its troubled past and now offers a beautiful nation cloaked with dazzling white beaches and emerald green paddy fields.
The central region near Nha Trang is where you’ll find a long stretch of beach with clear ocean waters that roll gently up immaculate sands, refracting a thousand tiny rainbows. All along this perfect coast lies a string of small cafes behind which are the ruins of the long-deceased Champa that still stands as a testament to this once prominent kingdom.
In terms of urban attractions, Ho Chi Minh City, formally Saigon, is the largest and most populated city in Vietnam, as well as being the industrial, commercial and cultural centre of the country. It’s alive with museums and markets, shops and temples, restaurants and bars. Hanoi, meanwhile, is a smaller and more elegant capital city in the heart of the Northern Delta.
